About Rotary Leadership Institute

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a multi-district, grassroots leadership development program of member districts organized into regional divisions in various parts of the world.

RLI is not an official program of Rotary International and is not under its control.

Why do we need a leadership institute?

It is generally agreed throughout the Rotary world that the success or failure of a Rotary Club primarily depends on the quality of club leadership. It has been said that poor club leadership is the primary cause of membership losses. Because of the annual turnover of club officers, Rotary needs a constant influx of knowledgeable Rotarians who also arc aware of the leadership skills necessary to move a club forward. It is difficult at the club level to learn enough about the exciting world of Rotary with its more than 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Furthermore, leadership skills in a voluntary organization are often different from business leadership skills. RLI provides an opportunity for quality Rotary general education that is usually not otherwise available.

For administrative purposes, the International RLI creates divisions. A division may consist of one or more Rotary district. Each division arranges for courses for clubs within their member districts, set policies, handles finances and cooperates with the International RLI. Each division uses the same course curriculum so that participants may take the various Parts at different sites and dates.

The Heartland Division was formed in 2006 to serve Rotary District 5650 in Eastern Nebraska and Southwest Iowa. In 2014, the Heartland Division expanded to include Rotary District 6000 in the Southern part of Iowa (not already in District 5650.) Below is our team (pictures will be coming soon!).
